A graduating senior from Canyon Lake High School signed a contract Thursday to illustrate a children’s book for a local author. Casey Santos will illustrate “Santa Didn’t Bring Me a Little Red Wagon” for author Pedro M. Aleman.
Santos, who read Aleman’s manuscript and submitted a few illustrations showcasing her style, will provide 30 paintings to the author and publisher by August. Her pieces will illustrate the book and bring Aleman’s words to life.
Aleman chose the young artist because of her ability to capture facial features with great detail.
“She has a vision,” Aleman said, “and I believe in her and have faith in her. It doesn’t always take a professional to be good at something.”
Since the story is about a friendship and a Christmas wish, Aleman hopes to have it published before the holiday season.
As for Santos, she plans to study art at San Antonio College and continue to challenge her creativity. She credits CLHS art teacher, Nell Anderson, for her confidence and her determination.
