Comal ISD Receives Award for Financial Reporting

The Comal Independent School District has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This marks the district’s sixth year in a row to receive this award for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).

In addition to the district receiving an award, the individual responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR is also recognized by the association. For Comal ISD, this person is Kathy Hanlon, the district’s director of business services who has been with the district for 15 years.

“Kathy is directly responsible for the information that is audited,” said David Andersen, Comal ISD’s chief financial officer, “and she has done a great job for many years and is well deserving of this recognition.”

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The CAFR is judged by an impartial panel in order to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
