Dec. 16, 2022 - Annually, the Education Service Center, Region 20 (ESC-20) hosts a Holiday Card Art Contest, and this year’s winning entry in the elementary category was created by a fourth-grade student from Clear Spring Elementary.
Khloe Reininger was given the news when a prize patrol from ESC-20 and Comal ISD Superintendent Dr. John E. Chapman III showed up in her classroom with balloons, a $50 Visa gift card, a set of 12 holiday cards featuring her artwork and a framed poster of her winning design.
Featuring Rudolph with is red nose walking in a winter wonderland of snowcapped mountains and falling snowflakes, Reininger’s art piece features blue tones with one simple word, “Peace,” written across the top.
“I think that snow is peaceful and calming,” explained the artist, who sketched her design and then used colored pencils to create the holiday scene.
Reininger’s piece was chosen from hundreds of entries, according to Mayra de Hoyos, an ESC-20 representative, and was chosen for its originality, colors and overall design.
Clear Spring Elementary art teacher Tammy Mendenhall encourages students to enter art contests all year long and is excited for Reininger.
“I try to encourage students to enter community art contests and art shows whenever the opportunity comes up,” says Mendenhall. “We really try to get our students’ artwork into the community for everyone to enjoy and to see their talent.”
The holiday cards may be purchased through ESC-20. Email [email protected].
