April 29, 2025 - Canyon Middle School family and consumer sciences teacher Kimberly Reynolds was named a finalist for the Environmental Educator of the Year award by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
“Being named a finalist is an incredible honor and a humbling experience,” says Reynolds who has been with Comal ISD for two years and in education for three. “It affirms the work I do each day to empower students with real-world skills and values that extend beyond the classroom.
“To me, it means that the passion I bring to teaching - and my commitment to shaping responsible, compassionate, and informed individuals - has made a meaningful impact. It’s also a reflection of the hard work and growth of my students, and I’m proud to represent them, my campus, and the field of Human Services education.”
Reynolds was a finalist in the education category of the 2025 Governor’s Texas Environmental Excellence Awards which celebrate the efforts to preserve and protect the Texas environment while inspiring others to take steps to become better environmental stewards in their communities.
Through her class, principles of human services which is part Comal ISD’s career and technical education (CTE) program, Reynolds teaches students about sustainable living practices and responsible consumer choices.
“We explore topics such as reducing waste through recycling and upcycling, conserving resources in daily life, and supporting local and environmentally responsible businesses. In projects like meal planning or clothing care, I emphasize eco-conscious decision-making, helping students understand how their actions impact the environment.”
Reynolds along with the other honorees will be recognized during the TCEQ annual awards banquet June 10 at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin.
Congratulations!
