Class of 2026 Graduates Choose Military Service

June 3, 2026 - Among this year’s graduates from Comal ISD, more than 70 have committed to serve in the U.S. military either through enlistment, receiving an ROTC scholarship or by appointment to a military academy.

Davenport High School graduate Karla Perez earned a prestigious four-year Army ROTC scholarship to attend Baylor University in the fall to study nursing. While a student at DHS, she served as student council president, battalion commander of the Army JROTC, was a member of the dance team and was active in the Student 2 Student organization.

“I wish to serve in the military because I am grateful for the opportunities this country has provided to me and my family,” says Perez, whose father served in the United States Army for 32 years, retiring as a sergeant major. “Military service allows me to give back to the nation that has supported us while helping protect those same opportunities for future generations.

“Serving others and contributing to something larger than myself has always been important to me, and military serve is one of the most meaningful ways I can do that.”

Perez plans to pursue nursing and further develop her leadership skills in both college and through the military. One day, she would like to give back to students as a mentor and JROTC instructor, inspiring the next generation of leaders as the DHS instructors guided and inspired her.
