Alexis McJilton - Pre-AP & On Level English 1
Welcome to English 1! I am so excited to have you at Canyon High School. Freshman year is always a big step up from junior high and can make some students (and their parents!) nervous. Rest assured our staff, counselors, and professionals are here to help you. Please reach out if you have any concerns or questions.
**A word about attendance: Compulsory attendance means students must be physically present 90% of the time a class is offered and pass with a grade of 70 or higher to gain credit. In the fall semester, if a student misses 9 or more days of class, they will be required to make up the seat time before credit is granted. Students have the best chance of being successful when they attend class regularly!

Meet Your Teacher!
I arrived at Canyon HS in 2023 after teaching for 26 years at Judson HS. My teaching career began in 1995 at Copperas Cove HS and I have taught all levels 7-12, including Pre-AP, Pre-IB, AP Literature, IB Language & Literature, regular, inclusion, and G/T English. In the last 5 years, my two adult children both graduated from Texas State University. My husband and I have two cats, and we enjoy walking & playing disc golf. In my spare time, my lifelong love of learning and reading propels me to sponsor UIL Literary Criticism, Ready Writing, and Prose & Poetry.
