College, Career and Counseling

Canyon High School

We hope you all have had some time to enjoy the lazy days of summer! The counseling office is buzzing already in preparation to welcome back Cougar Nation later this month. We have some new faces joining our team, and the alphabet shuffled a bit, so be sure to check out who your counselor is for this year on the CHS website.

Besides a few new faces, we have some other exciting additions this year! Starting in September, we will be hosting Wellness Wednesday during each lunch period. You can join us for a variety of practical and fun ways to take care of your mental wellbeing. Also during lunches each day, you will find a counselor available to help you in the cafeteria. The Counseling Center office is open each day from 8-5 and we are here to support you!

Cougar Camp: Freshman and new students are encouraged to join us for Cougar Camp on August 18 from 4-6 PM. You will have a chance to view your schedule, walk the building to find where your classes are, shop for spirit wear, and check out the many clubs and organizations on campus.

21-22 Student Schedules: Students will be able to view their schedule in Skyward prior to the first day of school. The district will send out a notification through email when that opens up.

AP Drop Policy: If your student is enrolled to take an AP class, It’s important to know the Comal ISD drop policy. Students may not drop an AP course before the 5th week of the 9 week grading period. (AP Government and AP Macroeconomics are exceptions to this policy. These are semester courses, which are graduation requirements, and students will not be able to drop these courses before the 3rd week of the 9 week grading period.) You can review the complete policy here.

STAAR EOC Scores: Have you checked your STAAR scores from the spring yet? Those became available to view in the Texas Assessment Portal in June. If your student was not here to test or was not successful in the spring, the next opportunity to test is December. Students must meet standard on 5 End of Course exams as part of graduation requirements: English 1, English 2, Algebra, Biology, and US History.
